Toy poodle Trouble wins K-9 Hero Award for alerting owners to house fire in Elliston

Trouble, Judy Deweese‘s toy poodle, received the New River Valley Kennel Club K-9 Hero Award during the Festival of the Dog at Blacksburg Dog Park on Saturday, May 5. The club presented the award for Trouble’s actions on April 8 when he alerted Deweese and her husband, Thomas, in the early-morning hours to a fire raging in their Elliston home. While the house was a total loss, the Deweeses and Trouble escaped without injury.
