Riverway 5K to kick-off RiverFest in Radford’s Bisset Park on Saturday, Aug. 11

The Riverway 5K will be held Saturday, Aug. 11 at 8:30 a.m. in Bisset Park in Radford and will help to kick off the return of RiverFest. The proceeds from the event will go to the American Heart Association.

The cost is $19 before Aug. 6 and $22 on race day. All participants will receive a T-shirt. There are age and gender divisions.

A one-mile fun run will be held at 9:30 a.m., and that event is free and open to children and adults of all ages. All participants in the fun run will receive a medal.

Registration on race day begins at 7:30 a.m. and will close promptly at 8:15 a.m.

The 5K and Fun Run course will circle Bisset Park on the footpaths. An awards ceremony and drawings for door prizes will follow the race. Results will be posted at the Blacksburg Striders website and also on runaboutsports.com.

The race is sponsored by Carilion New River Medical Center, Run About Sports and the Radford Visitor’s Center.

The Riverway 5K will kick off a full day of family fun with the return of RiverFest. Scheduled activities include a corn hole tournament at 10 a.m., a horseshoe tournament at 11 a.m., live bluegrass music from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., a Lucky (rubber) Duck Race at 3 p.m., children’s activities, craft vendors, food and a beverage garden.

The musical lineup for the day includes The Deer Run Drifters from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Matt Jones and the Bobs from 1 to 3 p.m. and Wayne Holt and the Empty Pockets from 4 to 6 p.m.
