Virginia Tech Police Department promotes Hutchison to patrol sergeant
Please join the Virginia Tech Police Department in congratulating Sgt. Derek Hutchison on his promotion to Patrol Sergeant.
Sgt. Hutchison has been working with the Virginia Tech Police Department for just over three years. He came to Virginia Tech in May of 2009 with several years of police / public safety experience with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff. After spending a year in the uniform patrol division, he was promoted to Corporal and spent that last two years supervising our security division. Sgt. Hutchison holds many collateral duties and advanced certifications which include firearms instructor / assistant range master / general instructor / driving instructor / NCIC / VCIN operator / lead officer / mobile command operator and dignitary protection team member. Sgt. Hutchison also serves as our campus security officer liaison and instructor with the Department of Criminal Justice Serves.
