The NRV CARES annual Volunteer Recognition Event was held Aug. 21 at Nesselrod Bed and Breakfast.
Members of the board, committees and volunteers were recognized for their significant contributions to the welfare of New River Valley children and families.
American Roots provided music for the event. All volunteers in attendance were recognized.
Those honored in particular for their noteworthy contributions include: Mark Anderson, Guardian ad Litem of the Year; Melissa Almond of the Radford City Department of Social Services as 2012 Social Worker of the Year; and Mike Sowder, 2012 CASA Volunteer of the Year.
NRV CARES, a local nonprofit organization, is grateful to all of the New River Valley volunteers that keep protection of children and strengthening families as the focus of their energy, Bev Walters, executive director, wrote in a news release.
To conclude the evening, the winning ticket for the NRV CARES fundraising raffle was drawn. David MacMillan of Blacksburg won two Virginia Tech Season Football tickets.
The sale of raffle tickets brought $5,902 to support the nonprofit’s programs, including CASA, courses on parenting young children and community education.
