Blacksburg, Virginia Tech to ‘Celebrate Sustainability’

Posted September 8, 2012

Celebrate Sustainability 2012, a collaborative effort of Virginia Tech, the Town of Blacksburg and Sustainable Blacksburg will be held September 18 through 20, 2012.  A more unhurried version of previous years’ Sustainability Week events, this year’s theme, Celebrate Sustainability, encourages us all to take a deep breath and look around at the “Green” efforts that are part of our wonderful community – and to celebrate all that has been accomplished.

“Once again we’re honored to be participating partners in Blacksburg’s Sustainability Week,” said Blacksburg Mayor Ron Rordam.  “Together, we will continue to emphasize the importance of sustainable lifestyles and the value of conserving our resources, while celebrating all that makes Blacksburg such a great place.”

This year’s events include campus tree planting (a Sustainability Week tradition); tours of several exciting green initiatives at VT; a Farmers’ Market ‘Sustainability Celebration’ with displays and representatives from local organizations; lots of electric car info including a TED Talk AND firsthand experience with electric vehicles and their owners, The three day series of environmental events will entertain, educate, and highlight sustainability programs and practices throughout the community and on campus.  A complete schedule of events can be seen at http://www.facilities.vt.edu/sustainability/sustain_week.asp.
