NRCA hires Yost as Homeless and Housing Programs Coordinator
New River Community Action (NRCA) is pleased to announce the recent hire of Lisa Yost, who has joined the organization as its new Homeless and Housing Programs Coordinator. In this role, Yost will oversee New River Community Action’s housing assistance department.
Yost comes to New River Community Action with recent experience serving the New River Valley. She spent the last three years with the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program, working first as a Veterans Resource Specialist in the New River Valley, and most recently as a regional coordinator for the program in Southwest Virginia. This involvement connected her with NRCA.
“I had the opportunity to collaborate with New River Community Action while I was with the Wounded Warrior program,” says Yost. “I was impressed with the organization and its efforts in the community, and I look forward to continuing to serve the New River Valley in this new role.”
Through its Homeless and Housing Programs, New River Community Action offers temporary financial assistance for individuals who meet program guidelines to keep or obtain housing when no other housing options, financial resources, or support networks are available to them.
Additionally, the non-profit organization’s Certified Housing Counselors provide services such as mortgage and rental guidance to help individuals create a road map back to stable housing.
New River Community Action also offers renter education and first-time homebuyer workshops for tenants, landlords, and those considering homeownership. Topics include leases, housing discrimination, renter/landlord rights and responsibilities, the role of credit, and saving for the future. First-time homebuyers can take advantage of classes that cover purchasing, financing, and maintaining a new home.
During the period July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, the NRCA Homeless and Housing Programs served 208 individuals with assistance totaling $146,711. These projects are funded by the VA Department of Housing and Community Development, Town of Christiansburg, United Way of Montgomery, Radford, Floyd and Giles United Fund.
For more information on services provided by NRCA’s Homeless and Housing Programs, please contact Lisa Yost at 540-633-5133 ext. 440 or lyost@nrcaa.org.
