The Christiansburg Police Department was formally presented with a reaccreditation certificate during the Town Council meeting on Oct. 16. The department earned reaccreditation from the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission after undergoing assessment in June.
The accreditation process examines all aspects of the department’s policy and procedures, management, operation and support service. In order to receive accreditation status, 187 standards must be met. The Christiansburg Police Department received a 100 percent reaccreditation rating.
Accreditation status is granted every four years. During this time, the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
The Christiansburg Police Department has held accreditation status since 2000.
