Long & Foster Realtors has been a longtime supporter of American Cancer Society Relay for Life by holding an annual fundraising yard sale. This year in addition to their fundraising efforts, Long & Foster looked for ways to incorporate more cancer awareness into the event. They accomplished this by having many of the yard sale volunteers wear a “Fight Like A Girl” cancer awareness T-shirt and/or ribbons. Pink ribbons supplied by a staff

member and literature supplied by American Cancer Society was passed out to the yard-sale shoppers.

In addition to bringing more awareness to the cause, there was another goal of making the fundraising effort more personal by allowing agents, affiliates and staff to make donations in honor or memory of loved ones affected by cancer. These tributes were made into Lumenaria bags and incorporated into several posters at the Montgomery County Relay for Life event. One of the organizers said, “It was just a way to take something wonderful we already did and make it more personal and meaningful by attaching names and relationships with the cause.”

Long & Foster contributed $3,059.39 to the American Cancer Society, with $2,029.39 raised from the yard sale and an additional $1,030 from agent contributions.
