The streets of downtown Blacksburg were invaded by ghosts, ghouls, princesses, super heroes, pirates and even crayons Wednesday during the town’s annual Trick-or-Treat event.

Hundreds of children, with their parents in tow, made the rounds of the stores, restaurants and service businesses to collect candy and enjoy the ghostly decor in Capone’s Jewelers and Creekmore Law Firm.

The Scary Strings – also known as the Community Celloworks – performed their annual free Halloween concert at The Lyric Theatre.

The event culminated with the much-loved Children’s Costume Contest. All participants received a treat bag, and the three winners in each of four age groups – ages 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12 – received prizes from Mish Mish, Frosty Parrot, High Peak Sportswear and Downtown Blacksburg Inc.
