Riner Ruritan Club to hold food drive
The Riner Ruritan Club is holding a nonperishable food drive for needy families in the community as part of its monthly meetings on November 12 and December 10, 2012. The holiday food baskets will be delivered before the upcoming holidays. Meetings are held at the Riner Volunteer Fire Department building, 4171 Riner Road (Route 8), next to Auburn High School. The club holds a potluck supper at 6:30 followed by a business meeting at 7 pm. The supper and meetings are always open to the public, and visitors, including families, and especially folks new to the area looking to make connections to the community, are encouraged to attend.
The Riner Ruritan Club (rinerruritan.wordpress.com) has served the community since 1998, as part of the national organization. Ruritan clubs work to improve the community through five service areas: Business & Professions; Citizenship and Patriotism; Environment; Public Service; and Social Development. Our recent activities include roadside cleanup as part of Broomin’ and Bloomin’, sponsoring scholarships for Auburn High School graduates, providing financial support to the Riner Fire Department and Riner Branch of the Rescue Squad, assisting community members in need, and organizing the annual Riner Heritage Day parade and celebration, in conjunction with the Riner Fire Department.
Members of the public are encouraged to stop by the Riner Fire Department (4171 Riner Road), at 6:30 pm on Monday November 12, 2012 to drop off donations for the food drive. All are welcome to stay for the supper and meeting as well. (Please park to the side so as not to block access for firefighters.) A drop-off box for non-perishable food donations will also be available in the StellarOne Bank, Riner Office, 4055 Riner Road. If you would like to nominate someone from the Riner community who needs a holiday basket, please contact club president Wayne Smith at 639-3354, or club secretary Amanda Witt at 357-0345, nstag8tr@yahoo.com, or ask for club treasurer, Misty Lucas, at StellarOne Bank in Riner. For further information, please visit our website (rinerruritan.wordpress.com) or our Facebook page, or call club president Wayne Smith, 639-3354.
