Thomas Via to serve as chairman of statewide insurance agent group
Thomas “Tommy” Via, president of Brown Insurance, has been elected 2012-13 chairman of the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia.
The National Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association is the nation’s oldest and largest association of independents, representing a network of more than 300,000 agents and agency employees nationwide. More than 4,000 of these association members are in the commonwealth of Virginia.
“This year, I plan to re-engage the membership by having regional group focus meetings with agency members to ensure our long-range goals meet their individual needs,” said Via. “In addition, we will support the future of the industry through our very successful Young Agents Program and their activities.”
Raised in the New River Valley, Via began his career at Brown immediately following graduation from Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business in 1979. He is a certified insurance counselor and currently serves as president of the Montgomery-Blacksburg-Christiansburg Development Corporation. He is a past president of the Rotary Club of Montgomery County and a past president of the Blacksburg Country Club, and he served on the board of the Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce.
