Wendy Downey, an RN with 12 years experience as the director of the cardiopulmonary department at Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery, has been hired as the director of patient services for Good Samaritan Hospice in the New River Valley. Prior to her work at Lewis Gale, she was the director of the Radford Wellness and Fitness Center at Carilion NRVMC.

“I believe that Wendy’s personality, experience and leadership skills are ideally suited to build on the foundation for hospice excellence that Martie Byrum, who is retiring, has worked hard to establish over the past five years,” said Sue Ranson, Good Sam’s president and CEO. “Wendy’s experience in healthcare and ties to the NRV community will help Good Sam deepen our roots and serve more people who need us.”

In addition, Dr. Chris Pile joins Good Sam’s medical staff as part-time associate medical director. Pile is well-known in Virginia through his work as medical director for Hospice of Southwest Virginia, section chief of palliative medicine at Carilion Clinic, and most recently chief medical officer for Hospice of the Piedmont.

“We are very pleased that Dr. Pile has returned to this area,” said Ranson, “and will be offering his expertise and skills as a hospice physician to our patients and staff at Good Sam!”
