Today is Millie Saul’s last day behind the counter of the downtown Blacksburg post office.
Saul has worked for the Postal Service for close to 32 years, serving 20 years at the downtown branch.
On Thursday, a Blacksburg Cash Mob surprised Saul with a “Millie Mob.”
A crowd of about 50 gathered at the downtown office to honor Saul’s service to the community. Blacksburg Mayor Ron Rordam read a proclamation, declaring Nov. 30, 2012, as “Millie Day.”
“Because of Millie’s valued presence in downtown Blacksburg for so many years, it is hard to imagine her absence and impossible to express how greatly she will be missed when she retires,” Rordam stated from the proclamation.
A farewell party for Saul will be held at Blacksburg United Methodist’s Whisner Building today from noon to 1:30 p.m.
