Angel Ministries’ Christmas store supports Floyd County fuel assistance program

Posted December 7, 2012

Since Angel Ministries’ Christmas & Gift Store opened Nov. 16 in Floyd County, the group has raised $1,568.77 through sales, plus an additional $529 in donations for the Heat Homes with Angels campaign.

The Emergency Fuel Assistance program through the Department of Social Services will receive the funds, along with a $2,000 donation from sales at Angels in the Attic.

We want to thank our Heat Homes with Angels donors: Zion Lutheran Church, Jerry and Kimberly Sutphin, Faye Sumner, Teddy Carter, and Kenneth and Kathy Blackwell. We hope others will join us as we strive to give the gift of warmth. One-hundred percent of proceeds at the Christmas & Gift Store and donations to the Heat Homes with Angels program will be donated. Drop off your donations or mail to: Floyd County Angels Ministries, P. O. Box 405, Floyd, VA 24091.

Angels Ministries is blessed with dedicated, hard-working and mission-minded volunteers. Last Saturday was another example of how our volunteer family works together. Two very special ladies have volunteered every Monday and Friday morning for years: Nadine Slusher and Jane Williams. Typically on Saturday, the store runs with a skeleton crew – but last Saturday, “the crew” was below minimum. As the crew discussed how they could possibly open all three locations, in walk Nadine and Jane: “Thought you guys might be able to use some extra help today!” We are blessed!

The store has had an influx of furniture – desk, chairs, swivel rockers and chest — that are priced to sell. There is also a large selection of Christmas clothing for all sizes, and the store’s wreath designer just created more wreaths and some fun, unique decorative pieces. Other items include Christmas decorations and ribbon, poinsettias (red and gold), strands of lights, vases, Christmas china, coats, sweaters, books, toys, cookware and craft supplies.

Also available are gift certificates — a great idea for those that have everything or someone you would like to remember in a special way. It’s win/win/win: You check-off on your gift list, we use that money to feed, clothe and shelter people, and the recipient gets a one-of-a-kind shopping experience!

Angels in the Attic is a ministry of Floyd County Angels Ministries Inc. operating under Floyd County Cares Inc., a 501(c) 3 organization. All Angels location will close for the year Dec. 22 and re-open Jan. 4, 2013. For more information, visit www.angelsintheattic.org.
