BLACKSBURG — Hundreds of New River Valley residents turned out for Blacksburg’s 2012 tree lighting, TubaChristmas and Holiday Parade events Friday evening in downtown Blacksburg.

Why is the CHRISTMAS parade called a holiday parade. All of my life, 58 years, it has always been called a Christmas parade. Lets keep Christ in Christmas!

It is called a Holiday Parade to honor and respect ALL people who wish to participate. Floats can portray Christianity if that is what the group chose.Floats can also portray Chinese New Year, or Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah or Ramadan or Saint Lucia Day or even Santa.
Let’s keep kindness, tolerance and a joyful spirit in the Holidays- the Christians I know practice those values.
