‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign in Christiansburg runs through New Year’s
The Christiansburg Police Department and other agencies from across the state will be looking for impaired drivers this holiday season. The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over initiative targets impaired drivers who choose to place themselves and other motorists in danger by drinking and driving.
Along with the holidays comes the increased consumption of alcohol at parties, social events and informal gatherings. This, coupled with increased traffic volume, raises the chances of being involved in a motor vehicle crash.
“We plan on taking as many impaired drivers off the road as possible before they can create an unnecessary crash,” said Maj. Dalton Reid. “We have zero tolerance for this type of action on our roadways.”
The department will have additional officers working during the month of December with an emphasis on locating and arresting impaired drivers. The campaign is a partnership with law enforcement, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Smart, Safe and Sober and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
The campaign runs through Jan. 1, 2013.
