The Community Foundation of the New River Valley has awarded over $38,000 in grant awards in its fall distribution cycle.
The foundation hosted a celebration of the awards last month.
The CFNRV reviewed 62 applications for projects from across the New River Valley in a variety of fields of interest including the arts, social services, civic affairs, conservation, education, and health.
In addition to celebrating the fall grantees, Jennie Hodge of Micah’s Backpack addressed the crowd as the inaugural recipient of the Community Impact Grant. Made possible with generous support from Carolyn Pearsall White, the CFNRV’s Community Impact Grant awards $10,000 over three years plus in-kind support to projects addressing a critical community need. The grant will be used to launchMicah’s Mobile Backpack, a summer feeding program for 235 Blacksburg children. Funds will be used to purchase and retrofit a bus to transport weekend meals during the summer to children who typically receive meals during the school year.
Incorporated in 1994, the Community Foundation is a public, not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching our community by providing professional management services to donors for their charitable causes, awarding visionary grants and scholarships, and nurturing collaborations in our community.
