The home of Mrs. Elizabeth Smith on Houston Street in Blacksburg was burned this past Monday night [Jan. 7]. She lost all of her belongings.

Mrs. Smith is a sweet, kind and elderly lady. On fall Saturdays, she opens her large yard to Virginia Tech football fans for parking and tailgating.

Some of her tailgaters have gotten together to start a fund to raise money for Mrs. Smith, and the Suntrust branch in Salem has agreed to help us.

If you have ever parked on Houston Street or would just like to contribute to the fund to help Mrs. Smith, please make a check payable to Harry L. Brewbaker Jr. and in the memo line write, “Elizabeth Smith Fire Fund.”

This will ensure it is deposited in the proper account. Checks can be mailed to Suntrust Bank, 1395 W. Main St., Salem, VA 24153.
