CHRISTIANSBURG — Brothers Parker and Cole Epperly each scored first-place finishes in the Christiansburg Recreation Center’s inaugural Reel Kids Casting Skills Competition on Jan. 19.

The competition, which was held in conjunction with the Virginia Bass Federation, tested the competitors skills at casting, flipping and pitching a plastic jig to a stationary target.

Parker took first place in the 11 to 14 age group, while Cole won the 15 to 18 division of the contest. The pair was each awarded with a certificate, fishing lures and a fishing pole for their efforts.

Both boys also qualified for the state-level competition at the Richmond Fishing Expo, however, neither will be able to attend due to prior commitments.
