Hero cat alerts sleeping couple to outlet fire, owners say

James and Marcia Hoback of Pilot share this amazing story of their cat Scooter, who alerted them to a fire in their home in the middle of the night:
Here is a story I must share about our cat Scooter. In the middle of the night, Scooter awoke my husband chattering like he does when he see’s a bug or see’s a bird outside the window. My husband said to Scooter … go on Scooter go lay down. Hoping to go back to sleep …
Scooter just kept chattering so my husband (half asleep) got up to turn on the light to see what it was that Scooter kept chattering at, and that is when I awoke to “OH NO.”
I jumped up out of bed smelling this horrible smell, and what it was is the outlet strip on fire! My husband immediately uplugged it and took one of his socks to muffle out the fire. Scooter saved our lives! If it hadn’t been for Scooter waking us up it may had been a really bad night! We are so thankful for Scooter!
He got special treats, toys and a new scratch pad from PetSmart as his reward! We love you Scooter.
