Each year nationally, Subaru allows customers to determine five community organizations that Subaru will give financial donations.  Subaru donates $250 for each car sold in a specific time frame, usually November to January. This year, Subaru made donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, ASPCA, Make a Wish, Meals on Wheels and USO.

Shelor Motor Mile and their community partnership expanded the Subaru event right here in the New River Valley.

For the past nine years, Kathy Sweeney, Internet sales manager at Shelor Motor Mile Subaru, has been promoting the Share the Love event, with this year being no exception.

“One year ago my daughter Lilly Grace turned 4, and I wanted to start showing her how people give back to their communities,” said Sweeney. So with a little research and planning, Sweeney and Shelor Motor Mile team members embarked on their second-annual localized Share the Love event.

Shelor employees began collecting food for the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program in November 2012 with the help of Christiansburg Walmart and local manager Brian Tickle, allowing setup of the Shelor Motor Mile Community Partnership trailer and Subaru Outbacks for food contributions. Many Shelor Motor Mile employees volunteered to collect food for local families and their pets. Collections continued through January.

On Jan. 7, a Subaru Outback was filled and the food was dropped off at MCEAP, located on Roanoke Street in Christiansburg. Krista Wilson, from New River Community Action, explained how the food would be distributed locally. Subaru’s national Share the Love event inspired a manager and many other employees at Shelor Motor Mile to take action and to share the love locally, too.

“Team members at The Motor Mile find it to be very rewarding to give back with the help of Shelor and Subaru,” said Sweeney.
