Food safety course to be offered March 4

Posted February 5, 2013

Virginia Cooperative Extension and the New River Valley Health District will be teaching the “Cooking for Crowds” food safety course.  This three hour course is designed for persons who serve and sell food to the public at temporary events and festivals.

The course will be taught on March 4, 2013, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Riverview Baptist Church, 219 Big Stony Creek Road, Ripplemead. The cost for this course is $20 person, which includes handouts, exam and certificates.

Those who pass the exam will receive a certificate (good for three years) and is accepted in the New River Health District.  When displayed at food festivals and other temporary events this will assure and reinforce the public’s confidence that they are receiving a safe product.

Unsafe food can “spoil” your group’s reputation, and its finances.  Don’t take a chance!  Learn to protect yourself and the people you feed. Please sign up by Feb. 26 to make sure your spot is reserved by calling the Pulaski Extension Office at 980-7761.
