The New River Valley Society for Human Resources Management’s Board of Directors presented the 2012 NRV SHRM Diamond Diversity Award at their annual Holiday Social in Christiansburg on Dec. 13. This year’s honor went to Community Housing Partners. Clay McCoy, director of human resources, received the award on behalf of the nonprofit organization.
Nomination requirements included a summary that incorporated the purpose of the effort, the activities of the company, the reason the effort is deserving of recognition, ways the effort has conveyed sensitivity and appreciation for diversity, and achievements and impacts or potential impacts resulting from the company’s efforts.
Community Housing Partners is a mission-based nonprofit that specializes in building and maintaining safe, secure, energy-efficient and inviting housing choices and communities for those of low to moderate income. The organization was recognized for exemplifying inclusive excellence in recruitment and retention strategies, programs and offerings, and contributions to making the New River Valley an attractive and inviting place to live and work.
Not only was the winning nomination full of examples of the company’s innovative recruitment efforts and diversity education and promotion practices, but it even included individual employee letters of support based on their experiences at the company, and it provided examples of what they have witnessed and experienced while working there.
The New River Valley Chapter of SHRM is one of 500 chapters of national SHRM, the professional organization for human resources professionals. It is composed of more than 120 HR professionals from Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Dublin, Floyd, Giles, Pulaski and Radford and represents an array of New River Valley businesses, local governments and universities.
