5th-annual Blacksburg Fork and Cork scheduled for April 27
The Blacksburg Partnership, a nonprofit economic development organization serving the Blacksburg area, announces plans for the fifth-annual Blacksburg Fork and Cork, an award-winning food, wine and art festival. The event will be held at the First and Main Shopping District, Saturday, April 27, from noon to 6 p.m. This is a rain or shine event.
In 2012, Blacksburg Fork and Cork was named “2nd Best Wine Festival” in Southwest Virginia by Virginia Wine Lover and was voted “3rd Best Food Festival” in the region by readers of Virginia Living. Another outstanding lineup of wineries, local chefs, artists and live music is planned, and Blacksburg Fork and Cork will once again host the Can Do! canned food sculpture competition. This competition encourages teams of co-workers, friends and families to build creative works of art out of nonperishable food items. Food donated as part of the competition will benefit Feeding America Southwest Virginia, Micah’s Backpack and the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program. There will also be a food and juice box drive at the festival gate.
Leading up to the festival will be the inaugural Blacksburg Fork and Cork “Taste the Town,” which will feature fun and unique food- and wine-related events each day at multiple venues. Restaurants, wineries, specialty food stores, and more will participate to showcase innovative products and celebrate the succulent edible offerings of the area.
Blacksburg Fork and Cork attendees are encouraged to responsibly enjoy the wine tastings offered at the festival, and reminded that by purchasing a bottle to share with friends and family, they can bypass the longer lines and wait times.
“Our goal of the Fork and Cork festival is to introduce Blacksburg and our neighboring communities to the finest of Virginia wines and to give them value for their attendance. It’s equally important that we support our participating wineries so they’ll continue to make Fork and Cork a destination each year,” said Blacksburg Partnership President Diane Akers. “We’re really excited about another great year and expanding the festival to be a week-long event.”

Still waiting to know what this group do with all the money they raise. As a “nonprofit economic development organization serving the Blacksburg area”- shouldn’t their budget be public knowledge? So far have not seen this group actually put much money into anything to benefit the town.

Pay for admission to taste wine only to have to buy bottles to get any wine at all. Outrageous that they basically say this in the marketing material. Get more wineries and then the lines won’t be as long. Not the only one who thought it was a waste of money for admission!
