NRCC professional truck driving course to begin Monday, March 4
A new professional truck driver training course will be available to New River Valley residents beginning Monday, March 4. Classes will be held at the Crossroads Institute in Galax and will run for eight weeks, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. New River Community College will provide transportation to the class for those registered in the program.
Participants in the training will learn truck driving skills in a small class environment, take the Virginia DMV’s Class-A Commercial Driver’s Test and have the opportunity to meet with trucking company recruiters.
The course is open to those who are at least 18 years old, have a valid Virginia driver’s license, have a CDL learner’s permit, provide an official copy of their DMV driving record, pass a DOT physical exam, pass a drug test and submit to random drug testing during the program.
The program is free to eligible participants, but space is limited. More information may be obtained by calling NRCC’s Office of Transitional Programs at 540-674-3682 or by emailing GED@nr.edu.
This is a new collaboration between New River Community College and Wytheville Community College and is funded in part by the Virginia Department of Education Office of Adult Education and Literacy and the New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Board.
