Blacksburg ArtCrawl to feature scavenger hunt and readings Friday, June 1
Downtown Blacksburg Inc., will present its annual ArtCrawl with Scavenger Hunt and Spoken Word Celebration Writers Reading on Friday, June 1 at Cafe de Bangkok. Readings will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m., and the ArtCrawl with Scavenger Hunt will be from 5 to 8 p.m.
Readers will include:
4:30 p.m. Beth Wellington, activist poetry
4:45 p.m. Michael Abraham, fiction from his new book, Providence, VA
5 p.m. Elias Simpson, VT MFA 2012, poetry
5:15 p.m. Elizabeth McCommon, wise woman, actress, essay
5:30 p.m. George Norton, ag economist, essays on third-world poverty
5:45 p.m. Anna Hawthorne, humorous essay
6 p.m. Chelsea Adams, poetry
6:15 p.m. Kathy Coleman, coal region storyteller, and former storytelling ambassador to China
Participating galleries include Bollo’s Gallery, with work by George Wills; CAIO, with work by members of the BRAA; Capone’s Fine Jewelers, with works of art by Truman Capone, former director of the School of the Visual Arts, and custom-made jewelry; Eucalyptus Massage Center Gallery, with work by Knic Umstead Gallery at Mish Mish Gillie’s Gallery; John’s Camera Corner, with old Blacksburg photos, pictures by Earl Palmer, and Blacksburg postcards; Kent Jewelers, with work by Serjo, world-renowned Brazilian artist; Main Street Inn Gallery, with works by Holly Cromer Matrix Gallery; and The Artful Lawyer A Fine Gallery Inc., (housed at The Creekmore Law Firm), with works by Dale Goorskey, Ellen Braaten, Charlotte Chan, Jen Richter, and Jenny Huffman.
