The Floyd Town Jubilee, Concert in the Park, on June 17 from 3 to 8 p.m., will feature the award-winning, bluegrass group the Grascals, gospel groups New Horizons & the Comptons and a performance by the Back Porch Studio Cloggers.

The Grascals are among the most beloved and acclaimed bands on today’s bluegrass scene, having won SPBGMA’s Bluegrass Band of the Year award in 2010 and the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Emerging Artist of the Year award in 2005, and earning its Entertainer of the Year honor in both 2006 and 2007.

For those who know them, the quick emergence of the group came as no surprise, for these are musicians whose roots and crossed paths reach back over more than two decades in bluegrass ensembles such as the Osborne Brothers, Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time, the Sidemen and New Tradition. Their roots can also be traced back to Nashville’s larger musical community, where the Grascals have been able to draw on legends such as Bobby Osborne, George Jones, Vince Gill, the Jordanaires, Steve Wariner, Lloyd Green, Paul Craft and others for songs and for performances in the studio, on stage (including multiple guest appearances on the Grand Ole Opry), and for national television appearances, including on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, CBS’s Early Show and Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends.

This concert will be the first of three summer events during the Floyd Town Jubilee at the Warren G. Lineberry Community Park, located on South Locust Street in downtown Floyd. The Town of Floyd has decided to host three community events in place of the one-day town festival in years past. Each event will have a different theme and focus. The second event, set for Saturday, July 14, will focus on fun contests in the park, and the last event, scheduled on Saturday, Aug. 18, will feature kids and family activities with music and more. All three events will be free to the public.
