Ashlee Blankenship & Friends to perform bluegrass concert in Floyd on Saturday
Ashlee Blankenship & Friends is performing under the canopy of oaks at Oak Grove Pavilion (635 Needmore Lane, Floyd) on Saturday, June 30 at 7 p.m.
Ashlee and her Blades of Blue made their showcase debut last year at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass conference with 2010 Mandolin Performer of the Year Adam Steffey, who is one of their biggest fans, at their side.
“I feel like the sky is the limit for Ashlee,” said Steffey. “She has a powerful voice that can wrap around any song, whether old or new, and deliver it with authority and confidence.”
Banjo master Sammy Shelor agrees.
“Ashlee Blankenship is my favorite of the up-and-coming singers in the bluegrass industry. She’s soulful and energetic with a great range and can sing anything from traditional to contemporary bluegrass with great feeling!” he said.
And the praise continues with Mountain Fever Records owner Mark Hodges. “Ashlee is one of the most promising young singers I’ve heard in years,” said Hodges. “She has superstar talent, yet we are amazed every day how much better she keeps getting.”
Admission is free, but donations are encouraged for charities including Reading in Floyd is Fun, or RIFF; Plenty!; Floyd Emergency Assistance; NRV Literary Volunteeers; NRV Women’s Resource Center; and NRV Cares.
