Dulcimer player Maggie Sansone to offer workshop and concert Aug. 19 in Blacksburg
Maggie Sansone, one of the finest hammered dulcimer players in America, will be offering a workshop and concert on Aug. 19 at Northside Presbyterian Church in Blacksburg (1017 Progress St., N.W.). The workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. will offer participants ideas for how to ornament, embellish, and arrange a basic tune to give it added color and variety. Sansone’s specialty is in Celtic music, making this “Evolution of a Tune” workshop one that any level of hammered dulcimer player can enjoy. The cost of the workshop is $30.
Afterward, she will be appearing in concert at the church from about 4:45 to 5:45. Come early to get a seat! There is no admission charge, but a free-will offering will be taken ($10 donation is suggested). Sansone will have CDs and more for sale at the concert.
A potluck dinner will follow. Everyone is asked to contribute one dish (main dish, salad, vegetable, or dessert). Following the dinner, Maggie will lead all musicians in a jam session; all instruments are welcomed. To register for the workshop (fee taken at the door) or for additional information, contact Marya Katz at 961-4435.
