On Aug. 18, the Floyd Country Store will present Maggie Sansone on hammered dulcimer. The Americana Afternoon Showcase will include a noon performance by Sansone, followed by a workshop titled ”Celtic tunes and Celtic slow jam” from 2 to 4 p.m. The hammered dulcimer (mixed instruments) workshop is for all skill levels. The cost is $30, and walk-ins are okay. Sign up for the workshop, contact Maggie in advance or walk in on the day of the event. Come on by and have fun! A kids’ event, “Kids’ Day in the Park,” will be going on next door from 1 to 6 p.m.

On Aug. 19 in Blacksburg, ”An Afternoon With Maggie” will be hosted by Northside Presbyterian Church and the New River Valley Dulcimer Club. Sansone will be presenting a two-hour hammered dulcimer workshop on Celtic Music titled ”The Evolution of a Tune,” where she will teach a few basic tunes and then show participants how to ornament, embellish, and arrange the tunes to give them added color and variety. The workshop will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and costs $30 per participant. A concert will follow from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., with a recommended donation of $10. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., a potluck dinner will be provided by the church. All instruments are invited to join in jamming after dinner. Northside Presbyterian Church is located at 1017 Progress St. N.W. in Blacksburg. For more information, contact Marya Katz at firstname.lastname@example.org or 961-4435.
