VBRMF to host grand-opening concert Sunday, Oct. 21 at Floyd EcoVillage
Virginia’s Blue Ridge Music Festival will host a grand-opening concert, Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. at Floyd EcoVillage, located off Franklin Pike. This special musical event will celebrate the newly finished Celebration Hall, part of Floyd EcoVillage’s new Village Center.
Conducting a chamber ensemble will be David Stewart Wiley, music director of both The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and New York’s Long Island Philharmonic. The program will include a dedication of the grand piano specially selected for this beautiful new concert space. An abundance of music will feature Mozart (Allegro from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik), J.S. Bach (Piano Concerto in D Minor, 1st movement, Allegro), Vivaldi (concerto in A Minor for guitar & orchestra), Gershwin’s Lullaby for Strings, a Celtic duo including classical guitarist Joseph Pecoraro and Katherine Wiley, and violin virtuoso Elise Blake soloing in Massenet’s inspiring “Meditation.”
The benefit concert will not only inaugurate Celebration Hall but will also introduce the EcoVillage’s Village Center, which thanks to the generosity of Jack Wall and Kamala Bauers, will serve as the home base and gathering spot for Academy students and mentors during the festival, May 31-June 9, 2013. Join us for this musical kickoff in view of Floyd’s autumn foliage. All are welcome and seating is limited. A meet-the-artists wine and champagne reception will follow with bonus music by The Mike Mitchell Trio.
Tickets are $25 in advance ($30 at the door). They can be purchased at The Jacksonville Center in Floyd, charged by phone (Jacksonville Center, 745-2784), or online via PayPal at www.virginiasblueridgemusicfestival.org.
Another musical benefit, a Youth Concert, is set for Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. at The Jacksonville Center for the Arts. The program includes Floyd area vocal and instrumental music students, ages 12-18, performing a variety of pieces. A light reception will follow the program with a suggested donation of $10 to help support the Festival’s Student Academy Scholarship Fund.
