Langley Winds woodwind ensemble to perform Oct. 13 and Oct. 16 in New River Valley

The United States Air Force Langley Winds six-piece woodwind ensemble will perform two concerts in the New River Valley this month. The six-piece group will play contemporary, classical and patriotic music. All concerts are free and open to the public.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at Christ Episcopal Church in Pearisburg and 2 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Virginia Tech Recital Hall in Blacksburg.
The ensemble is part of the USAF Heritage of America Band stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va. Activated in 1941, the band has a rich history of inspiring public patriotism and enhancing esprit de corps among all the U.S. military service branches. The musicians travel more than 30,000 miles each year, performing concerts for the public and providing music for military protocol events throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Under the leadership of Lt. Col. Jeffrey B. Warner, the band remains at the forefront of preserving and enriching America’s military and musical heritage into the 21st century.
