Music, Dance, Theatre and the Spoken Word at The Jax Nov. 2
The Floyd Historical Society and The Jacksonville Center for the Arts will present “Tempests, Ghosts and Mad Queens” on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at The Jacksonville Center. The program features Scott Williamson, Artistic Director of Opera Roanoke along with members of the Apprentice Program at the Company. This is an innovative program of songs, scenes, poetry, theatre and dance. Everything will be staged, performers dressed in costume with dancing in two of the scenes. Williamson will sing, conduct and narrate the evening, interweaving poetry between the scenes.
This is the first time the Historical Society and The Jacksonville Center have collaborated on an event. Rebecca Weeks, president of the Historical Society said, “We are happy to be able to work collaboratively with the Jax on this benefit program. The funds raised will help us continue to work towards achieving our individual goals.”
A “Meet the Artists” Champagne and Wine Reception will follow the performance. Advance tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at the following:
The Jax, 745-2784, online at jacksonvillecenter.org or Floyd Historical Museum, 745-3247 or Rebecca Weeks, 745-4256. Tickets purchased at the door are $30 per person.
The program will take place in the community room at the Jax. “This will be a wonderful evening. It has been an enjoyable and productive collaboration with the Historical Society and I hope our community will come out and join us for this special program,” stated Linda Fallon, president of the board of The Jacksonville Center.
