NRV health partners offer free seminar on children’s dental health Feb. 24
The following news release was submitted by Joe Thompson of Dental Aid Partners of the New River Valley:
In celebration of February as National Children’s Dental Health Month, New River Valley health partners will present a free educational program for parents and caregivers about children’s dental health. Blacksburg dentist Dr. Joe Paget will present “Teeth are for Life: your children and their teeth, what you need to know” on Friday, Feb. 24 from noon to 1 p.m. in Fireside Room A at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Exit 109 on I-81 in Radford.
The program is free but advance registration is required no later than Thursday, Feb. 23. Registrants will receive a free box lunch. To register, call the Free Clinic of the New River Valley at 540-381-0820.
Parents and caregivers for babies or toddlers often have questions about thumb sucking, a child’s first dental visit or how and when to clean a child’s teeth. This program will help answer those questions and more, and will include time to answer your questions.
“Teeth are for Life” covers:
• When children should have their first dental visit;
• How to prevent early childhood cavities;
• When to expect changes from primary to permanent teeth; and
• Thumb sucking.
You will also learn about the importance of regular dental examinations.
Dr. Joe Paget, a board-certified pediatric dentist, has practiced in Blacksburg for 32 years and has made numerous presentations covering many aspects of children’s dental health to dentists, parents and a variety of other groups. He is the proud grandfather of his first grandchild, who will grow up with no dental cavities.
“Children’s teeth are meant to last a lifetime and a healthy smile is important to a child’s self-esteem and future happiness,” says Dr. Paget. “Give your children a future full of smiles. With proper care, a balanced diet and regular dental visits, their teeth can remain healthy and strong for a lifetime.”
This program is presented by the Dental Aid Partners of the New River Valley, Free Clinic of the New River Valley and the Virginia Department of Health’s New River Health District.
