Pulaski to recognize tornado anniversary with Calfee Park event Saturday, April 7

The anniversary recognition of the Pulaski Tornado Recovery will be held Saturday, April 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Pulaski’s historic Calfee Park.

Join us to honor volunteers, donors, and survivors of the twin tornados that struck Pulaski and Draper on April 8, 2011. This time of reflection and fellowship will include food, fellowship, games for children, music, information booths from our many partners, and a brief program to mark our community accomplishments.

Here is some info about the tornado recovery by the numbers:

80 - Number of homes repaired by volunteers and volunteer organizations with materials paid through the Pulaski Tornado Relief Fund

8 – Number of homes completely rebuilt by volunteers and volunteer organizations with materials paid through the Pulaski Tornado Relief Fund

8 – Homes being rebuilt that are currently in progress by volunteer organization paid through the Pulaski Tornado Relief Fund

3 – Additional homes in planning stages to be rebuilt by volunteer organization paid through the Pulaski Tornado Relief Fund

$1.4 million – funds received by the Town and County through the State’s Community Development Block Grant program

26 – Homes that will be repaired and/or rebuilt in the upcoming months paid for by the CDBG funds

$222,000 – Funds received by the County through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management individual assistance grant program

17 – Number of homeowners who benefited from the VDEM individual assistance grants

916 – number of businesses, individuals, and religious organizations who made a donation to the Pulaski Tornado Relief Fund

$495,500 – amount of funds received into the Pulaski tornado donation fund from businesses, individuals, and religious organizations
