‘Seeing Photographically’ weekend instructional program will be May 4-5

Posted May 1, 2012

The Virginia Tech Alumni Association, in partnership with WoodsEdge, Blacksburg’s first active adult community, announces a special weekend event designed to help photographers take their photography to the next level, May 4-5 at the Holtzman Alumni Center and The Inn at Virginia Tech.

Sessions begin with fast and fun instructions, allowing plenty of time for hands-on activities that reinforce fundamental photography principles and lead participants on the journey to seeing photographically. Lead instructor Kirk Carter and guest presenters Jon Beard, Cedric Rudisill, Dennis Neale, and Anna Metheny will guide participants through the weekend and be on hand to answer questions about photography gear and technique.

The weekend kicks off on Friday night with a welcome reception, introductory session on the formal tools of photography, and a special session on evening light painting during the “blue hour” – that time of the evening when the sky will appear deep blue in photographs. Saturday’s schedule includes meals and a full day of sessions devoted to themed “photography hunts” on the Virginia Tech campus.

At each of the day’s sessions, participants will receive instruction on photography techniques and then will be provided with a list of subjects to photograph with the challenge of achieving images that illustrate what they have just learned. The program culminates with a special banquet that includes a slideshow of photos taken during the weekend and discussion on images that are particularly successful at illustrating the weekend’s lessons.

Registration, information on the presenters, and a full program schedule of activities for the event is available online.

The Virginia Tech Alumni Association’s Drillfield Series is a collection of weekend programs designed for alumni, friends and families and centered on special themes with lodging on campus. Focus on Photography: Seeing Photographically and the rest of the 2012 Drillfield Series is sponsored by WoodsEdge, Blacksburg first active adult community. WoodsEdge offers Virginia Tech alumni an opportunity to relocate back to the beautiful New River Valley area.
