Christiansburg Presbyterian Church to host spring concert May 13
Christiansburg Presbyterian Church will hold its spring concert May 13 at 3 p.m. at 107 W. Main St., Christiansburg. A reception will follow the recital. The program will feature selections from the American song book with works by Gershwin, Mercer and more.
Performers will include Keely J. Rhodes, mezzo-soprano and native of Washington, D.C. Rhodes holds a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory and a Master and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Texas in Austin. In addition to the honor of serving as a Fulbright scholar to Italy during the 2006-07 school year, she was the recipient of the Austin Critic’s Table Award for Best Classical Female Singer in 2005 and 2006. Rhodes is on the faculty at Concord University in West Virginia, serves as the adjunct voice professor at Southwestern Virginia Community College, and runs a private voice studio in Northern Virginia.
Also performing will be Taylor Baldwin, adjunct faculty at Concord University, collaborative pianist and opera conductor, and organist for Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. Taylor is co-founder of the active piano duo Twice as Grand. His passion for accompanying has taken him to Middlebury German Immersion Program, the Wintergreen Music Academy and the Oberlin in Italy Opera Program. He was also assistant conductor and principal pianist for Knoxville Opera/University of Tennessee.
