Sew Biz of Radford is sponsoring a Quilt Challenge at the 2012 New River Valley Fair on July 23-28. The 2012 theme, “See What the Buzz is About,” features the Fair Bee.

The challenge fabric is available at Sew Biz, 92 & 94 Harvey St., Radford, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. An entry form must be completed and entry fee must be paid when you pick up the fabric. At least 50 percent of the fabric must be used in the quilt. The fabric provided is unwashed. We suggest you shrink by immersing in water, machine dry and press.

A $3 entry fee will be assessed when you turn in your entry form at Sew Biz and pick up your challenge fabric. Entry forms can be picked up at Sew Biz or at the Dublin Fair Office. Quilts must be delivered to the New River Valley Fair Grounds by July 16 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. or by appointment prior to July 16.

A Fair Competition Handbook with state rules can be obtained at the Fair office or at www.nrvfair.com after May 1, 2012.

Judging will be done on the Danish system. Therefore, each quilt will be judged on its own merit and awarded with appropriate placing. Special prizes will be awarded in three divisions, including Best Use of Challenge Fabric, Best Interpretation of the Theme and Best Use of Color. People’s Choice and Best in Show awards will also be handed out.
