Central Cemetery Decoration Day in Radford on May 27
UPDATED 10:48 a.m.: The event will be taking place on Sunday, May 27. The post and headline have been changed to reflect this.
Central Cemetery will be holding its first Decoration Day in many years on Sunday, May 27. A short service will begin at 2 p.m. and will be followed by music and refreshments. Local historians will also be on hand to provide information about the cemetery. Decorating the graves can be done anytime before or after the service.
The Central Cemetery is solely maintained by volunteers from Radford and surrounding communities. When designed in 1849, it was divided into 40-foot squares separated by foot paths. Local citizens volunteer to adopt a square and maintain it. Anyone interested in adopting a square or making a donation for the upkeep of the cemetery can contact Lynn Wright at 239-8450.
