The Bridge Christiansburg to host Grease Pig Run at July 4 celebration
On Wednesday, July 4, The Bridge is hosting an “Old Fashioned July 4th Celebration” to include a Grease Pig Run, Ice Cream Bar, and Corn Boil for an afternoon of great family fun. There is no admission fee, and the event is open to the public. The Bridge, Christiansburg Foursquare Church, is located at 900 Life Drive, Christiansburg. I think the ‘grease pig run’ is a cruel form of ‘entertainment’. These types of events are illegal in some states due to the fact that the pigs are subjected to emotional stress, broken bones, torn muscles and ligaments, etc. and sometimes death. The Bridge should find another way to celebrate Independence Day…other than abusing animals. This church needs to recognize the issue of animal welfare as one deeply connected to our role as stewards of Creation and if we are going to truly be a compassionate society, then we need to extend compassion to ALL of creation!
