AARP Blacksburg Chapter and VCOM to host Health and Wellness Fair on Sept. 19
Don’t miss the Health and Wellness Fair from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19. It will be held at the VCOM II Building in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center located at 2280 Kraft Drive in Blacksburg. The fair is free and open to the general public. The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Virginia Campus has teamed up with the AARP Blacksburg Chapter to offer free exhibits and health screenings. Some of the free screenings will include blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, bone density, vision and hearing. In addition there will be free flu shots for Medicare recipients. Nutrition advice and cancer counseling will be available. Also exhibits on updating and making your home more accessible will be featured. Approximately 100 health and wellness exhibits will provide valuable information for people of all ages. Free, light refreshments will be available or box lunches can be purchased on-site.
VCOM provides medical education and research that prepares globally minded, community-focused physicians who improve the health of those most in need. The college has had a collaborative partnership with Virginia Tech since 2002 and supports the health of those in Southwest Virginia and the rest of the Appalachia region by participating in health fairs and outreach programs such as this program in cooperation with the AARP Blacksburg Chapter.
The major sponsors for the fair include Bath Fitter, Blacksburg Eye Associates, Carilion Clinic, English Meadows, Farhi Vision, LewisGale Hospital – Montgomery, The Hearing Clinic, Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance and Warm Hearth Village.
