Downtown Blacksburg announces ‘Dining OUT for Equality Week’
Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. announced Tuesday plans for a “Dining OUT for Equality Week” to be held from Oct. 22-26 in downtown Blacksburg. The week-long event has been organized to show support for the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Community while promoting locally owned restaurants.
DBI is partnering with the Office of Multicultural Programs and Services at Virginia Tech during LGBT History Month, which is dedicated to observing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history along with the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements.
LGBT History Month began in 1994 and will be celebrated at Tech for the first time in Oct. The event and programs calendar will be available in mid-Sept. For more information on cultural and heritage months the Office of Multicultural Programs and Services celebrates can be found online here www.mps.vt.edu.
DBI is also encouraging local restaurants to participate in the event by offering specials for both lunch and dinner throughout the week. For more information about the event, contact DBI Director Laureen Blakemore at 951-0454 or LGBTQ Coordinator Catherine Cotrupi at 231-8584.
