NRV Roller Girls to host fundraiser for breast cancer research Oct. 21
The New River Valley Roller Girls, a local roller derby club, will be hosting a fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 21 to support the Virginia Blue Ridge Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer awareness and research. They will be competing against the Blue Ridge Rollergirls of Asheville, N.C., at the Adventure World Skate Center in Christiansburg at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. All proceeds from the bout, including ticket sales, donations and a silent auction, will benefit the local Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The NRV Roller Girls derby league was established in 2007 and has grown competitively and as an organization over the past four years. Comprised of women of all ages and makeup, roller derby is home to moms, professionals and students. These women are your neighbors, your service providers, your church members and your friends. The NRV Roller Girls team is a member of the national Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, which primarily competes with other leagues in the East Coast Region. They have competed with teams from as far away as Richmond, Knoxville, Tenn., and Columbia, S.C.
The NRV Roller Girls is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that is always looking for new ways to give back to their community. Over the past four years, the NRV Roller Girls have donated time and money to various charities and other local nonprofit organizations such as the United Way Montgomery/Radford/Floyd, the American Cancer Society via Relay for Life, the American Red Cross and the Pulaski United Way Hurricane Relief Fund, to name a few.
The NRV Roller Girls value the support they have received from the New River Valley community and hope that they are able to continuing giving back at every opportunity. For more information, visit www.nrvrollergirls.com.
