Thanksgiving Day gleaning event at Windy Hills Farm in Riner to benefit food bank
The Society of St. Andrew will hold a Thanksgiving Day gleaning event Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at Windy Hills Farm in Riner to provide food to those in need.
Volunteers are needed to pick turnips, which will be donated to the Southwest VA Second Harvest Food Bank.
This is a unique Thanksgiving Day volunteer opportunity. The event will provide fresh and nutritious produce to local feeding agencies that are in desperate need of food for their clients, especially at the holiday time.
The Society of St. Andrew is a national, ecumenical, grassroots nonprofit hunger-relief organization. It was founded in 1979 in Big Island, Va., where it maintains its national headquarters.
