Blacksburg AARP meeting and program
Blacksburg Community Center, Patrick Henry Drive
February 19, 11:30am – 1:00pm
Program: The Parish Nurse as a Health Care Advocate
Presenter: Jan Notter, Parish Nurse at the Blacksburg United Methodist Church
Please join us for this and other programs offered on a monthly basis by the Blacksburg local chapter of AARP. This year a number of our programs are devoted to the topic of health care advocacy—especially for seniors. Health Care Advocacy, whether provided by interested individuals or organizations designed for this purpose, has become an important component of our increasingly complex health care system.
Many of us may want or need someone to help in our interactions with doctors, nurses, insurance-providers, hospitals, nursing homes, and other parts of the overall system. An important question is, who provides these kinds of services? The answer is that different types of expertise come into play and this is what this year’s collection of programs will show. On February 19 Jan Notter will speak to the advocate’s role from her perspective as a parish nurse.
All are invited to join AARP chapter members for this program. Meetings begin at 11:30am with a “bring your own brown bag lunch” and the program begins promptly at noon and lasts one hour.
