Montgomery County Educational Foundation to host concert Saturday

Posted January 30, 2013

The Montgomery County Educational Foundation will host a benefit concert Saturday at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. to help raise funds and awareness about the foundation.

The benefit concert lineup includes the Blacksburg High School Madrigal Singers, Blacksburg Children’s Chorale Chamber Choir, Kipps Elementary Orff and Recorder ensembles and the Eastern Montgomery Elementary Children’s Choir. Tenor Robert Chafin and pianist Erica Ann Sipes are also slated to perform.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students. Tickets for the benefit concert can be purchased by going to MCEF’s events page on their website at www.montcoef.org/events.php.

The public foundation supports Montgomery County Public Schools by supplementing funding in addition to providing funding in areas outside of existing funding, according to their website.

In the past, the organization has sponsored events such as Technology in the Classroom, which provided iPads and software for preschool students at Prices Fork Elementary and kindergartners at Auburn Elementary.

Earlier this month, the foundation also held a “Music in Our World” poetry contest, which received more than 200 submissions. First-place winners in each of the four categories will receive an iPad Mini.

Prizes will be given out by MCPS Superintendent Brenda Blackburn during the benefit concert.
