CHRISTIANSBURG — The skating rink at Adventure World’s Skate and Fun Center saw plenty of action Saturday morning, but not a single wheel touched the floor.

For a second year, the center hosted Angel Chadwell’s Party In Pink Zumbathon, a dance party fundraiser with all the proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

“We call this Zumba love,” Chadwell said.

Decorated in an assortment of bright colors and decorative accessories, 125 women danced for nearly two hours and raised $1,619 for the cause through the combination of entrance fees, raffle tickets and donations.

Chadwell said many of the participants traveled for more than an hour to attend the party which started at 9:30 a.m. She noted that one even came all the way from Findlay, Ohio, which she estimated was eight hours away.

It wasn’t just the adults who got in on the action that morning, either. The Zumbathon also offered a special Zumbatomic course specifically designed for children ages 4 to 12 and taught by Michelle Greene. During the party’s intermission, the seven children who participated showed off what they’d learned.

Chadwell said that because the Zumbatomic course requires a separate license, many Zumbathons are not able to offer this element, but said she was happy they were able to Saturday.

She added that the Party In Pink is just one of many Zumbathons the group holds to benefit charities.
