BLACKSBURG – More than 200 people gathered on the Drillfield at Virginia Tech Sunday to take part in the Virginia Tech Police Department’s first-annual Community Day event.
Officer Larry Wooddell said the event was a great way to thank the community for their support and foster relationships already built with community members.
The event offered several police-related activities including a doughnut-eating contest, VIN etching, K-9 unit demonstrations as well as information about all the services the department provides to the community.
Children and adults were able to participate in “drunk goggle” tricycle races as well a dunk-a-cop dunking booth. Event-goers could tour Carilion Clinic’s LifeGuard helicopter after it made a special landing on the Drillfield.
Domino’s Pizza of Blacksburg provided free pizza to the crowd, and the Hokie Bird made a special appearance.
