Blacksburg resident Ruth Ann Howe to join Einstein graduate program in medical science
Ruth Ann Howe, a 2006 graduate of Blacksburg High School and 2010 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, has been selected for participation in the Medical Scientist Training Program at Einstein School of Medicine in New York City. The programs are extremely competitive combined M.D. and Ph.D. graduate degree programs offered by a small number of United States medical schools with financial support from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, in recognition of the increasing need for scientists to bridge the technical gap between laboratory discoveries and producing effective treatments for the patient. There are currently 40 individual MSTPs at 45 participating institutions with a total of 933 trainees in all stages of the programs. Howe will be leaving the lab of Dr. Audrey Odom at Washington University in St. Louis, where her research focus is malaria, to join Einstein in June. Her eight-year program will be fully funded.
Howe is the daughter of Jane Wemhoener and Charles Howe, who reside in Blacksburg.
