Virginia Tech to promote alternative fuel vehicles during Oct. 18 event
The Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team at Virginia Tech will celebrate the use of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles during its National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 18, at the Virginia Tech campus. HEVT’s event is one of more than 160 being held concurrently across the United States. National AFV Day Odyssey was created by the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium, a program of West Virginia University, in 2002 and held every two years since.
“We are pleased to join Odyssey 2012 as we continue to drive change across America,” said HEVT communication manager Virginia Hyer. “With our event we will spread the message of embracing alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles and commemorate Odyssey’s Decade of Difference.”
HEVT’s Odyssey event will include display of alternative fuel vehicles, prizes and giveaways to attendees and educational material on alternative means of transportation. In addition, other organizations with similar goals of sustainability will also be in attendance.
Odyssey is supported in part by funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, through a grant for the Advanced Electric Drive Vehicle Education Program. Additionally, Honda and Toyota are 2012 national sponsors and longtime supporters of Odyssey, while AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) and West Virginia University are national partners of the event.
